BITSP

LS2 is reading a book called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. After reading the first chapter, the class had an assignment to create a DLO (which usually stands for Digital Learning Object or some kind of project) answering questions based on that chapter. They had to think about what the best answers were. The student enjoyed making the project and is excited to read the rest of the book.

Mood-O-Metre

For  reading a tool called a “Mood-O-Meter” to understand how the feelings in a story from the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas change. They looked at two parts of the story and saw that the overall feelings, or mood, shifted as the story went along. They found emotions like hope, fear, sadness, and anger, and connected these feelings to important events. When parts of the story became more exciting or serious, they thought about how the main characters, Bruno and Shmuel, were feeling during those times. They used simple words and pictures to show how the feelings changed.

This activity helped them see how the writer makes the story more tense or emotional. It also helped them think more about what the characters are feeling and about the big changes at the end.

Contrast

LI : To use AI to create an image that shows the contrast between events or characters.

Compare means finding what two things have in common, while contrast means looking for how they are different. When you contrast things, you examine small or big differences to understand each one better.

In the story “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas,” there is a clear difference in how two family members feel about the father’s Nazi uniform. The grandfather feels proud and sees it as honorable, while the grandmother feels disgusted and disappointed, thinking it is cruel. This shows how even family members can see the same situation very differently.

Boy In The Striper Pyjamas C9

In Chapter 9 , we see Bruno as a young boy who feels lonely and cut off. He has a new tutor, Herr Liszt, who doesn’t allow him to read adventure books and instead makes him learn boring, strict lessons about history and geography. Because of this, Bruno feels trapped and gets bored. He’s always wanted to explore and see new things, so he decides to break the rules. He walks along the fence that he’s not supposed to go near, curious about what’s on the other side.

Malapropism Definition

This week for reading were learning about malapropism. Malapropism  is when someone mistakenly uses a word that sounds similar to the word they mean but is actually the wrong one. This mistake makes what they say sound funny or silly. For example, saying “prostate” when you mean “prostrate,” or “electrical” instead of “electoral.” This kind of mistake is often used in stories and movies to make people laugh.

Johnny Pohe and the Great Escape

Last week we were reading about a man named Johnny Pohe was a man from New Zealand who flew airplanes and helped soldiers in wars. One day, some bad people caught him in Germany and put him in a camp called Stalag Luft III. Johnny and 75 other men worked together to dig tunnels to escape. They named the tunnels Tom, Dick, and Harry. Two tunnels, Tom and Dick, were found and destroyed. The men waited until the night with no moon so they could sneak out through Harry.

When it was dark, all 76 men, including Johnny, sneaked out and went to a place called Hut 104 to hide. Many other men wanted to escape too, but only 76 escaped. The bad people told the guards to shoot the men if they tried to run away. Johnny was special because he was the first Maori pilot to fly an airplane.

You also made a special project with your friends about Johnny Pohe, talking about what was good and bad about him.

The Kuaka

this week my  the reading group was learning about the bird kuaka.

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was that they don’t stop flying when they’re migrating..

From this DLO I can see  is that the bird has dirt on its beak so it was probably eating food.
